Bake Club cupcakes raising money for children with cancer
When Cake Maker Niki Tomkinson found out her close friend's seven week old daughter had been diagnosed with cancer she was inspired to join our Bake Club and organise a fundraising baking competition.

Darcie Kay was diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma at seven weeks old.

It had spread from her ribs to her right lung where six more tumours had started to grow. During treatment she had to have three ribs and a piece of her right lung removed.

Niki at her Bake Club eventNow, aged one Darcie has fully recovered. To celebrate, Niki asked Darcie's mum, Natalie, if she could raise money for Children with Cancer UK with Darcie as her inspiration:

"I was humbled when Niki said she wanted Darcie to be the focus of her charity event. You do not realise what families go through until you experience it yourself. It is an amazing thing that Niki decided to do."

Niki, who runs Sweet-creation Ltd in Portsmouth, held a bake sale and invited customers to take part in a baking competition.

Darcie has fully recovered now but it’s still important to raise money for a charity who could help save other children in the future. The cake-selling was a huge success. The shop also held a raffle with local businesses contributing some great prizes. And by the end of the day the cupcakes were nearly all sold out and over £500 was raised!

Niki commented "Darcie has fully recovered now but it’s still important to raise money for a charity who could help save other children in the future."

Thank you Niki, and your team, for all your efforts to help children with cancer.
