In December 2009, we were delighted to learn that we had been chosen as one of Deloitte’s national charity partners for 2010 and 2011.

We were chosen through an employee vote and share the partnership with Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.

Deloitte has an inspirational commitment to the community and a well established corporate responsibility programme that is woven into many aspects of its work.

In addition to the four-way charity partnership, they also have a commitment to support 2012 Paralympics and the United Bank of Carbon Ltd (Uboc), a bank of Rainforest protection projects.

Our people voted to support the charity in huge numbers.

This reflects the excitement and commitment our people have for the great work CHILDREN with CANCER does in helping children affected by cancer.
Georgina Robb, the Deloitte partner leading the firm’s relationship with us says:

“We are delighted to be working with CHILDREN with CANCER.  Our people voted to support the charity in huge numbers and this reflects the excitement and commitment our people have for the great work CHILDREN with CANCER does in helping children affected by cancer.

We’re really enthusiastic about working closely with the charity over the next two years with the aim of making a real, long-lasting impact, not just through raising funds but also through significant in-kind support.”

Fundraising initiatives

The partnership employs a wide range of fundraising initiatives.

  • Employee fundraising: The primary focus is employee fundraising, with Deloitte people taking on a varied range of activities both nationally and within their departments.

  • Payroll giving: Deloitte also has an excellent payroll giving scheme and both this and employee fundraising are supported by a generous matched giving scheme.

  • Volunteering: In addition to their fundraising, Deloitte will also provide us with much needed support through Pro Bono work and volunteering.

Objectives and aims

Deloitte’s aim is to raise over £1 million – divided between the three charities.

Their support is more than just fundraising.  They offer their people time off each month to volunteer, and work closely with our senior management to provide opportunities for pro-bono support. This all helps our charity in developing strategies and systems for growth, leave a lasting legacy for the future and help raise the profile of the charity, both internally and externally.

Highlights, Activities and Plans

Deloitte’s people are highly motivated and passionate about the causes they support, their commitment is second to none.

By the end of 2010, with one year of the partnership still to run, Deloitte had already raised £300,000 for our work. These funds are supporting the current ALL trial, UK ALL 2011, and the establishment of a national cell bank for childhood leukaemia.

One of the highlights of 2010 was the Community Investment Challenge -  96 Deloitte partners and staff climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, raising a phenomenal £475,000 to be split between the three national charity partners and a Tanzanian conservation project.

Many events were organised to support the climbers including ‘An African Experience Night’, an art and photography competition titled ’My Mountain’ and a highly entertaining ‘Kili Come Dancing’event.

There are a number of events planned for 2011 including a one day cricket tournament, their partner conference raffle and a Rowathon.  In addition, they are supporting a single event for each of the charity partners.

We look forward very much to working with them throughout 2011 and to continuing a fruitful and most rewarding relationship.
