Running for Lucy

Lucy’s story

Lucy spent seven months in Birmingham Children’s Hospital and has one of only 10 known cases of this tumour in the world. Lucy had to have a second operation a few months ago to once again remove as much as they could of the growing tumour. She fights her little heart out every day, nearly always with a smile and a wave. Her resilience and spirit are inspirational.

My race dates for this year

I’m running just over 240 miles this year, without training runs. That’s from Birmingham to Truro in Cornwall!
  • Milton Keynes Half in March
  • Virgin Money London Marathon in April
  • Holly 30 mile ultra in June
  • The Grim Reaper Ultra 40 mile in August, three weeks later Enigma reverse double marathon
  • Great North Run in September, three weeks later the Berlin Marathon
  • Birmingham Half in October
  • Sunrise to sunset in December.
I’m not one of those amazingly skinny, fit runners – this is hard for me! I raised £4,335 last year and am hoping to raise £2,000 plus this year. If I have a bad moment when I’m running, Lucy is always at the forefront of my mind. Children with Cancer UK are a great charity to run for and it’s great to be part of their team.

Helping more families

I know the pain we’ve gone through as a family, so if that money could stop someone receiving that call we did – because we’ve had more research or more treatments – that would be amazing. For me, brain tumours are a large part of our world. To be able to stop that happening to just one less family would be a massive part for me. (Anjie Carless)

Charlie was diagnosed with medulloblastoma and the tumour was removed on 5th of the 5th 2005 – a date I will always remember.
