On Saturday 21st February, over 100 of our Virgin Money London Marathon runners gathered for a training session in Hyde Park.

Watch our Superheroes in action.

Tom Beford gave the Children with Cancer UK running team the benefit of his considerable experienceOnly 9 weeks to go

With nine weeks to go until the big day, training is well underway for our runners, so this was a great opportunity to get more miles under their belts, meet fellow runners and get some expert advice.

Our runners gathered in the morning at Imperial College Union for a talk by Tom Bedford. Tom is race director of the Richmond Running Festival and a running obsessive - so much so that he’s run a marathon in an incredible 2 hours and 19 minutes. Everyone paid extra attention to his advice as soon as he mentioned this!

Everyone paid extra attentionListen to your body

Tom told our runners that everyone should go at their own pace and not try to race round as fast as possible. Listening to your body is important to make sure that injuries are prevented in the build up to a big event like a marathon. Emily, from our Running Team, spoke about our gratitude for the huge efforts made by our marathon runners and how the money they raise will go towards helping children and young people with cancer.

Following stretches and putting on their superhero capes, our runners went out into Hyde Park where they congregated on the steps of the Prince Albert Memorial for a few photos and a warm up. Tom then led our runners for three laps of the four mile circuit that is the Hyde Park perimeter.

Our superhero runners certainly turned a few heads running around the park with their capes fluttering in the breeze. We can’t wait to see 1,500 superheroes line the streets of London on Sunday 26th April for the London Marathon.

Good luck with your training and take a look at our #CWCHERO training day gallery on Flickr.
