About the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC

The 2012 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) takes places on 28th October 2012. It's the 5th largest US Marathon and 9th largest in the world.

In its 37th year, the MCM stands as the largest marathon in the world that doesn’t offer prize money, earning its nickname, "The People's Marathon".

The aptly named “Marathon of the Monuments” starts in Arlington, VA, and winds it’s way through the US Capital passing the Pentagon, crossing the scenic Potomac River before heading back into Northern Virginia for the iconic finish in Rosslyn at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

Runners must must maintain a minimum 14-minute per mile pace. Runners must reach the finish line within 7 hours.
The most famous MCM finisher was talk show host Oprah Winfrey. There are post race festivities at the Finish Festival.

Registration opens in February 2012 and last year sold out in 28 hours. The field is limited to 30,000 participants.
