Sussex Snowdrop Trust

Care at home for local children

In 2005, we donated £20,000 to The Sussex Snowdrop Trust to support their work in caring for children with leukaemia. Sussex Snowdrop Trust provide ‘Care at Home’ for local children who have a life-threatening illness or who may be terminally ill.

How The Sussex Snowdrop Trust helps

Based in the Chichester area of West Sussex, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust provides:
  • Care at Home by Children’s Community Nurses and Nurse Support Workers
  • Emotional support which is met by Snowdrop Counsellors
  • Financial help for families coping with the day-to-day problems of caring for a very sick child.
The Trust funds two Community Paediatric Nurses and a Nursing Assistant who work closely with the other teams involved in each child’s care, including hospital staff, teachers and social workers. The nurses provide continuity in care and the relationship between families and nurses can become very close. Nurses give advice on the child’s illness and treatment, making regular visits to their homes to change dressings, take bloods, give medicines and teach parents how to perform some of these simple medical procedures. The charity offers a range of services to families, including counselling and art therapy as well as financial help for anything from travelling expenses to the purchase of household equipment.
