Gift Aid

Your gift could be worth 25% more – at no extra cost to you!

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows us to claim back tax on your donations so your £1 donation could be worth £1.25 to CHILDREN with CANCER.

Who qualifies?

Anyone who pays UK Income or Capital Gains Tax. Any personal tax you pay on your salary, pension or savings is eligible.

This also applies to sole traders and partnerships. If you donate £1 to CHILDREN with CANCER under the Gift Aid scheme, we can claim back the 25p tax from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

You can make a Gift Aid declaration if you are a UK taxpayer who has paid income tax and / or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount that we can reclaim on your donation.

If you are a basic rate tax payer (currently 20 per cent) - for every £1.25 you earn, you take home £1 and pay 25p tax to Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

If you're a 40 per cent tax payer or above, you can also claim tax relief on your charity donations.  For every £1 you donate, we still receive £1.25 - but it will cost you just 75p. Simply include our receipt for your donation in your next tax return.

We can't claim Gift Aid on company donations.

I support a number of causes – who can claim Gift Aid?

If you donate to more than one charity, you can authorise one or all of them to claim Gift Aid.  You just have to pay enough tax each year to cover the Gift Aid claimed back on all your donations in that year.

If you give £1 a year to ten different charities, each charity can claim 25p under the Gift Aid scheme.

This me
ans you have to pay at least £2.50 in tax for your donations to be eligible.

I'm collecting sponsorship - can I ask my sponsors to Gift Aid their donation?

Yes! If you are collecting sponsorship for an event or run, don’t forget to ask your sponsors to complete a Gift Aid declaration.

Simply provide the donor's full name, their full home address and postcode – we don’t even need a signature.

We can’t claim Gift Aid on:
  • raffle tickets or other prize entries
  • entrance fees to an event
  • donations made via the Charities Aid Foundation
  • money collected by one fundraiser (each donor needs to sign a Gift Aid declaration)
