Reception in the House of Lords

Through the very kind sponsorship of Lord Turnberg, we were able to host a reception in the House of Lords on 24th June 2009 entitled:

“Celebrating Science: current successes, future hopes for childhood cancer”.

It was a flagship event and has helped enormously to raise our profile, both in political circles and elsewhere: strengthening existing relationships and forging new ones.

Attended by 170 people, the event was a huge success and a milestone for us. It gave us the opportunity publicly to recognise some of the best scientific research achievements that we have funded over the last 21 years.

In recent years, the projects we have funded have made such a difference to survival rates and treatments for children with leukaemia.

An expert panel selected winners for four awards which were presented at the reception.

Andy Jackson, survivor of childhood leukaemia and member of our Scientific Advisory Panel, is shown here presenting an award. He gave Dr. Patricia Buffler of UC Berkeley the award for Lifetime Contribution to the Research of Childhood Leukaemia.

Dr. Patricia Buffler has achieved so much in the battle against childhood leukaemia.

We were delighted to be joined by around 30 MPs and Peers, key fundraising supporters, corporate sponsors, and scientists researching childhood leukaemia both from the UK and around the world.
