For Christmas 2019 we launched two new Christmas parties – one in Manchester and one in London – for families affected by childhood cancer. We gave children with cancer the chance to enjoy the magic of Christmas with their families, helping them to create lasting memories at this special time of year.
Vega went along to the party in London and had so much fun. She’s pictured here hanging a bauble she designed on the Christmas tree at the party. Vega has been in remission for six years now, but she’s still dealing with stomach aches and pains in her legs that were caused by her harsh treatments. That’s why research into developing less harmful treatments is vital. With your help we can continue to invest in these projects. A gift from you today could help make safer treatments for children like Vega a reality.
I still, and will never stop, feeling so lucky and thankful that Vega has finished her cancer treatment. But very quickly the support systems we had relied on seemed to end. The message was clear: Vega is better. You are normal. Everything is normal. Go back to normal.
But going back to normal is not easy, there are the side effects from toxic treatments, the psychological trauma on the child, and there is the remaining, unrelenting fear in us parents, jumping to the worst at the smallest sign of illness. Children with Cancer UK understand this. They were there for us during Vega’s journey, and thanks to people like you, they remain by our side today.
Will you support life-saving research to make treatments safer for children like my Vega?
Kathi, Vega’s mum.
