Jo Elvin steps down a CEO

Jo Elvin joined the charity with a clear remit: to oversee a rebrand of the charity, raise its profile and attract new supporters, including celebrities, to support our dedicated cancer research for children and young people and family wellbeing funding. Elvin has driven several new fundraising and awareness raising initiatives to sit alongside the charity’s established events including The Really Big Auction, The Ultimate Christmas Quiz and Style Against Cancer.

Jo Elvin also secured new and high-profile supporters including Claudia Winkleman – who fronted the Style Against Cancer launch – Laura Whitmore, David Gandy, Lorraine Kelly and many more.

Whilst Elvin has decided to pursue fresh challenges, she will be remaining on hand to consult the charity on special projects when needed.

The CEO position will be filled on an interim basis by Amar Naher with the charity seeking to fill this position permanently in the future. Naher has been working with the charity for over a year, which he joined after a long career in Fintech, business transformation and executive coaching.

It’s been an honour to lead this incredible charity. A wonderful team has helped us to achieve an enormous amount in the last two years – from a successful rebrand to the amplification of our message and our work and, most importantly, the ability to continue to fund so many vital research projects.

For that of course, we owe the deepest gratitude to our legions of supporters. Meeting so many people – from all walks of life – who come together to run marathons for us, or hold bake sales or galvanise their school, has been a life affirming joy. Most of all, I want to pay tribute to the young patients and families we exist to support. It’s been truly moving and inspiring for me to get to know so many people who find time to step up for the cause, even when they themselves are coping with the trauma of childhood cancer.

After leading a period of transformation, I am handing over the organisation in a great position to build resilience for the future. Whilst I feel ready to explore fresh challenges, I’m delighted to be able to be keeping a hand in to assist Children With Cancer UK in any way I can. I have no doubt that my successor will experience all the same rewards of the role and drive the charity ever closer to the goal of seeing every child survive cancer.
