Fundraiser of the Month: Shay & Ger

Our Fundraiser of the Month for February 2026 goes to Shay (19) & Ger (18), who took on several eccentric challenges – from daily ice baths to shaving their heads – to fundraise for children with cancer.

What’s the fundraising challenge you’ve set yourself and why?

We’ve taken on a bunch of challenges, driven by ambition and the urge to do something bigger than ourselves, whilst giving something back to the communities we come from. It’s about making great memories, feeling proud of what we’ve achieved, and doing it all for a cause that means a lot to both of us.

The pair have taken on all sorts of challenges to fundraise for us, like a stand up comedy show and consuming 10k calories in one day.

But they’re not stopping there – Shay and Ger are planning on taking on even more as they reach their monetary goals! On their list is a trek to Machu Picchu, tattoos and running the length of Ireland in 15 days.

How much money have you raised so far?

£3,209.17 in just over a month!

We couldn’t be doing what we’re doing, investing in research and supporting families, without our amazing fundraisers.

A massive thank you to the pair for taking on these challenges to support childhood cancer awareness and research.

Why did you decide to fundraise for Children with Cancer UK?

The decision for us to support Children with Cancer UK was based on several important reasons.

We have seen the devastating impact childhood cancer can have on families and lives, both personally and within our wider community. Most recently, our community experienced a heart-breaking loss when a young life was taken by childhood cancer, which really shook our communities to the core and showed first hand the impact of this disease.

For these reasons, and many others, raising as much money as possible truly means a great deal to us. We want to do whatever we can to support children and families facing something incredibly difficult, and to give back in any way we’re able. That’s why we felt, why stop at £2,000 each?

If we can raise more, we will, even if it means gold hair or running the length of an entire county, because the impact of this cause is far bigger than us.
