Birmingham Children’s Hospital

We have provided funding of £1 million to help Birmingham Children’s Hospital build a new cancer unit as part of their Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal.

Part of the new centre will be the Paul O’Gorman building, named after the son of Eddie and Marion O’Gorman, the founders of Children with Cancer UK.

Upgrading facilities

The Cancer Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is the Principal Treatment Centre delivering regional Haematology and Oncology Services to the population of the West Midlands and beyond. Over the last three years, it has handled more than 14,000 inpatient and outpatient appointments. Our significant donation will help Birmingham Children’s Hospital to upgrade their facilities and help more children with cancer.

The new building and accommodation will include:

  • more comfortable treatment areas
  • more consulting rooms
  • age-appropriate play zones
  • better communal areas for families
  • an improved outpatients area

Louise McCathie, head of fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “We are delighted to have reached such a milestone in the Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal. I want to say a huge thank you to both Children with Cancer UK and everyone who has donated so far.”
