Fundraiser of the Month: Phil

We couldn’t be doing what we’re doing, investing in research and supporting families, without our amazing fundraisers, large and small.

What’s the fundraising challenge you set yourself and why?

I told my boss I wanted to raise as much money as possible for Children with Cancer UK by riding around the country and visiting all our work depots. The following day he asked me if I remembered what I said, before I could reply he said he had started the ball rolling so I could not go back on my word. I am so glad I said what I did in the pub as this charity is unbelievable how they help parents and children with cancer.

How much money have you raised so far?

So far I have raised over £40,000 for Children with Cancer UK.

Why did you decide to fundraise for Children with Cancer UK?

I wanted to raise money for charity, a lady called Gemma suggested this charity. I am so glad she did as I spoke to a lot of people who had children with cancer during my bike ride. I was also moved by the bravery of four-year-old Theo, a colleague’s son who’s been battling an aggressive form of cancer.

How did you find the bike ride?

I found some days I dropped my head as it was lonely riding on your own but then after hearing the stories from parents with children with cancer it gave me more strength to complete my ride.

What would you say to anyone else who is considering taking on a fundraising challenge?

Just think about the children what they are going through, that is enough to complete any challenge. They go through more pain than the person who does the challenge.
