Fundraiser of the Month: Sammy
Our Fundraiser of the Month for October 2026 goes to Sammy, a mum of four who is taking on the incredible challenge of running all six World Marathon Majors in one calendar year.
Despite once being told she would never run again, Sammy has completed five marathons, with New York being her final challenge, and has already raised over £28,300 for Children with Cancer UK.
What’s the fundraising challenge you’ve set yourself and why?
My challenge is to complete all six Abbott World Marathon Majors in one calendar year and achieve my dream of becoming a Six-Star Finisher, all while raising as much as I can for Children with Cancer UK. After having my little girl, I was told I would never be able to run again and have since fought hard to overcome my difficulties and prove the doctors wrong. I ran my first London Marathon for Children with Cancer UK in 2022 and have continued to run for them every year.
I lost my uncle to cancer in 2025. He was my father figure and one of my biggest running and fundraising champions. I made a promise to him shortly before he died that I would chase my Six-Star dream.
Less than 50 women worldwide have completed the original six marathons in one calendar year, so as a 45-year-old mum of four and business owner, it was definitely going to be a challenge both physically and mentally. Taking on all six across the year seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for the charity along the way, as well as those all-important funds.
How much money have you raised so far?
I have raised £28300 so far and counting!
Why did you decide to fundraise for us?
When my little girl was two, she had an unexplained growth. We spent many long nights in hospital as it would bleed profusely. The doctors were baffled and then we were referred to a specialist at Evelina Children’s Hospital who believed that it could be cancerous and she as hurriedly booked in for surgery. The wait for the results was agony, and we prepared ourselves for the news. However, it turned out to be a rare benign tumour. It has since been my aim to do what I can to support other children and their families who do not get the news that we did that day.
What would you say to anyone else who are considering taking on a fundraising challenge?
This experience has been life-changing for me in more ways than I can count. If you are considering taking on a fundraising challenge for Children with Cancer UK, I promise you that you will definitely not regret it! You could not wish for a more supportive team around you from both the charity and the people who choose to take on challenges for them. I have made friends for life along the way.
We couldn’t be doing what we’re doing, investing in research and supporting families, without our amazing fundraisers.
A massive thank you to Sammy for taking on these challenges to support childhood cancer awareness and research.
