Meet Paul and Adam, father and son fundraising duo

Cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats

Paul and Adam, father and son, were looking for a challenge and adventure to take on together in the summer of 2021, and decided on the iconic LEJOG challenge. Not only did they cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, but they also stopped on the way and climbed Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis (the three peaks) while they were at it. Paul tells us that they hadn’t initially planned to raise money for charity, and had just planned it as an epic father and son experience, however when Paul learned of Children with Cancer UK they decided to also include fundraising in their challenge. To date Paul and Adam have raised an amazing £3,877 for Children with Cancer UK. When asked how they found the challenge overall, Paul said:

It was a total challenge, both physically and mentally exhausting. A lot of preparation and planning went into this, but until you’re actually putting foot to peddle for those distances every day you don’t know how the body or bike will hold up. Thankfully we didn’t experience any mechanical problems with the bikes.

Taking on such a challenge as a father and son duo can be a great bonding experience, something Paul confirms. He said:

This is the best thing Adam and I have done together as a father and son experience. Apart from the company, doing it with Adam made the ride fun and enjoyable even through the pain. We encouraged each other through the hard times, of which there were plenty. We created our own little war cry of “we’re doing this for the kids” which we shouted out during the dark times – it really gave us the push that we needed.

There’s no doubt that Paul and Adam are an incredible duo, and we are so thankful that they chose to fundraise for us as part of their epic challenge, while also creating memories together out on their bikes. It is only thanks to supporters like Paul and Adam that we can continue our work, and invest in life-saving childhood cancer research, so that one day, every child and young person can survive cancer.
