This year, we are launching two new Christmas parties – one in Manchester and one in London – for families affected by childhood cancer. We want to give children with cancer the opportunity to enjoy the magic of Christmas with their families, helping them to create lasting memories at this special time of year.
Children affected by cancer and their families will be treated to a wonderful Christmas meal, and a morning filled with balloon making, face painting and more. Each child will also get the opportunity to meet Santa. With your help the children are able to enjoy a fun day out forget about their cancer treatment and chemo.
I still, and will never stop, feeling so lucky and thankful that Vega has finished her cancer treatment. But very quickly the support systems we had relied on seemed to end. The message was clear: Vega is better. You are normal. Everything is normal. Go back to normal.
But going back to normal is not easy, there are the side effects from toxic treatments, the psychological trauma on the child, and there is the remaining, unrelenting fear in us parents, jumping to the worst at the smallest sign of illness. Children with Cancer UK understand this. They were there for us during Vega’s journey, and thanks to people like you, they remain by our side today.
Over the years, we’ve attended many amazing days out run by Children with Cancer UK. We feel really lucky to be invited and always have a wonderful time whether at Zippos Circus, Weston super-Mare’s Grand Pier or Wembley Stadium. These events have given Vega opportunities to focus on just being a child, for us to meet families in similar situations and find hope when we most needed it. You can read about the events that have already taken place this year in the flyer I have enclosed.
Kathi, Vega’s mum.
