Fundraiser of the Month: Anthony

What’s the fundraising challenge you set yourself and why?

I proudly joined the amazing team running the London Marathon this April and set myself a personal goal of raising £2,000. It wasn’t just about the miles — it was about making a meaningful difference for a cause that truly matters.

How much money have you raised so far?

I’m thrilled to say I’ve raised £2,716.45, including Gift Aid. The generosity and support I’ve received have been incredible, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed.

Why did you decide to fundraise for Children with Cancer UK?

My wife teaches in a primary school, and one of her five-year-old pupils was facing a cancer diagnosis. She often shared the emotional toll it took on him, his family, and the whole class. Although I didn’t know the child personally, their story deeply moved me. It brought the harsh reality of childhood cancer into sharp focus, and I felt compelled to help. That’s when I reached out to Children with Cancer UK — a charity that’s truly changing lives.

How’s your challenge going? If it’s completed – how did you find it?

I kicked things off in January by downloading a marathon training plan and sticking to it religiously — covering 277 miles in training! The day of the marathon was tough, especially with the heat, but all the preparation paid off. I crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 45 minutes — exhausted, elated, and incredibly proud.

What would you say to anyone else who is considering taking on a fundraising challenge?

If you’re thinking about it, go for it. Step out of your comfort zone and embrace the journey. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll feel an overwhelming sense of purpose. But most importantly, remember: it’s not about you. It’s about giving to others. Taking on a fundraising challenge is one of the most fulfilling things you’ll ever do — and the reward is far beyond what you expect.

By taking on this challenge Anthony has raised an amazing £2, 716.45 for Children with Cancer UK’s work, which will help us invest in more life-saving childhood cancer research. We’d like to say a huge thank you for your support – it is only thanks to supporters like you that we can continue our work. If you would like to raise money in aid of Children with Cancer UK, we’ll help you every step of the way.  Start fundraising today
