Fundraiser of the Month for April 2025 is awarded to Kirsty, who wanted to raise money for Children with Cancer UK by crocheting 70 bunting triangles, one for each week of her chemo.

I set myself the challenge of crocheting 70 bunting triangles, one for each week of my chemo, because I love crochet and there are so many other children like me with cancer who need help.
The current total stands at £26,000 and I want to raise as much as I can.
Because it funds amazing research into childhood cancers that haven’t got effective treatments, and it also funds Beads of Courage. I always look forward to collecting the beads that I’ve earned every week. I love holding in my hands and looking through them, and it’s a great way to tell and remember my story
Very well. I have 70 weeks to complete my 70 triangles and so far I’m ahead: I’ve crocheted around 40 but I’m on week 24 of chemo. Also some of those I did right at the beginning of my treatment before my eyesight had improved, so I might do them again!
Meeting Davina McCall was brilliant because it was great to meet someone else who’s had a brain tumour. Being on the radio and TV was fun because I love sharing my story with others. And I’m so pleased by the number of people wanting to help and put up posters. The very first donation I got was from a friend in my class who donated their sweet treat money.
You can do anything as long as you set your mind to it. Don’t set yourself a goal, just aim to go as far as you can, which might be a lot further than you imagine!
By taking on this challenge Kirsty has raised an amazing £26,000 for Children with Cancer UK’s work, which will help us invest in more life-saving childhood cancer research.
