Here you will find our top fundraising activities and some useful tools to help you with your fundraising over Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Whether you want to organise activities at home, with your colleagues, or in your community, we’ve got you covered.

We all have dreams of the person we want to become and what we want to achieve in life. For some children, those dreams are interrupted and sometimes shattered, by a cancer diagnosis.

You can help us to ensure that whenever a child receives a cancer diagnosis, they have the best possible chance of survival, whether that’s by finding cures and better treatments through the ground-breaking research we fund, or by helping to ease some burdens along the way.

We won’t let cancer stand in the way of a child’s hope for their future. Your support will help those children whose lives are put on hold and whose futures are uncertain because of cancer, to enjoy the privilege of growing up.

Dress Up for the Kids

Support all the children whose childhoods have been disrupted by a cancer diagnosis this September, by reflecting on your own dreams growing up and by hosting or taking part in our Dress Up for the Kids month long event.

Why not showcase to your family and friends what you wanted to be when you were younger and help more children and young people reach their dreams.

Steps to get started with your fundraising

You can choose a range of activities for this event – here are some of our favourite ideas:

  • Host a virtual dress up party, quiz or training session (we recommend using Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Facebook)
  • Meet up with your family and friends dressed up
  • Go about your daily tasks/activities whilst dressed up. For example, going to work, walking the dog, food shopping, taking the bins out, or on a training run.
  • Dress up for your next team meeting or work conference
  • Host a dress up games night

There are multiple ways you can share your challenge – here’s a couple of ideas.

  • Share your challenge on social media and spread the word to your family and friends about the amazing fundraising you are doing. We recommend sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Don’t forget to use the hashtags #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth and #WhenIGrowUpCCAM, and tag us so we can see and share what you’re up to.
  • Ask your employer to add a link to your fundraising page within your email signature and share your fundraising event in staff newsletters.
  • Create a Facebook event to encourage your family and friends to get involved and support you or fundraise together.

You have all of September to complete your challenge – do it at your own pace. We hope you’ll have lots of fun with your challenge, and we’re thankful for your support this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

We have some helpful resources available for you, including posters, bunting and sponsorship forms. For even more tips, look at our fundraising toolkit here.

At the end of September, close your fundraising page and get in touch if you’d like to receive a certificate. Just send us an email to fundraising@childrenwithcancer.org.uk and we’ll sort it all out.

Other ways to get involved this month

We also have some other great ideas on how you can support us this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, if dressing up doesn’t take your fancy.

Sweepstake

Put together a sweepstake game around upcoming events. This can be done in the workplace or amongst your family and friends. Some events to consider are formula 1 races, football games and Great British Bake Off. Each person picks who they think will win from the line-up, places their bet (suggested donation £2 a play) and the winner gets 10% of the total amount collected with the rest being donated to Children with Cancer UK.

Make a donation

Guess Who game

A great virtual activity. Why not collect a groups childhood icons and baby pictures then mix them up in two different lines and get everyone to match the baby picture with their childhood icons. Get them to pay to enter and tempt them with some goodies for the winner.

How you're helping

We won’t let cancer stand in the way of a child’s hope for their future. Your support will help children like Astrid (pictured) whose lives are put on hold and whose futures are uncertain because of cancer, to enjoy the privilege of growing up. Astrid is currently receiving treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, which is due to finish on 31 August.

She was diagnosed at the age of two after her parents discovered lots of bruises on her legs. The first six months of treatment were really hard, taking its toll on the family both physically and emotionally. Astrid is on maintenance therapy at the moment and takes daily oral chemotherapy.
