Children with Cancer UK photo competition Terms and Conditions


The closing date for our first photography competition has been extended to midnight on Friday 17th August 2012.

Who can enterThere are two categories in this competition:

Children: Aged 16 years old or under. To qualify for the children’s category, you must be under 16 years old on the closing date. If you are under 16, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian before submitting any images.

Adult:      Aged 17 years or over.

All photographs must be emailed to photos@childrenwithcancer.org.uk. Regrettably, we cannot accept entries by post or in person.

We are asking for a minimum donation of £5.00 for each entry from children aged 16 years or under, and £10.00 for each entry from adults. Regrettably, we cannot accept any images without a donation.

You may enter as many photographs as you wish. However, each image you enter will require a new minimum donation.

The competition closes at midnight on Friday 17th August 2012.

Photograph formatWe are only accepting digital photographs for this competition.  Images can be black and white or colour.

Each entry should be a JPG image, ideally a minimum of 200dpi.

Maximum file size is 3 Mb. Winning entries will be invited to submit original higher resolution files for printing.

Please label your images as the following: First name, Surname, number of photograph i.e JoeBloggs1 or JoeBloggs2.

Images may be enhanced to make the photograph brighter, cleaner etc, but the content must not be extensively manipulated. We may ask to see the original image if the judges have any queries.

The judging panelThe judging panel comprises:

  • Nicky Johnston, one of the UK’s best known celebrity photographers and a familiar face on our TV screens
  • Charlie Hamilton-James, award winning wildlife photographer and cameraman, best known for Halcyon River Diaries on BBC1
  • Matt Fisher, owner of Photography Synergy, a renowned children’s photographic agency and a long term supporter of Children with Cancer UK

When selecting the winning entries, the judges will consider a range of factors including composition, originality and interpretation of the theme.

PrizesThere will be one winning photograph in the children’s category and one winning photograph in the adult category. Both photographers will win a day on a big cat shoot, organised by Photographic Synergy, near Welwyn in Hertfordshire and a £50 Jessops voucher.

Five runners up in each category will each win a £50 Jessops voucher.  

The winning photograph and five runners up from each category will feature in our 2013 anniversary calendar.

Prizes are non-transferable and any travel or accommodation costs involved in taking up the prizes are at the prize winner’s expense.

We will also notify winners by email, post or phone by Monday 3rd September 2012. If the winner cannot be contacted, Children with Cancer UK reserve the right to choose another winner.

The winning photos will be announced on Monday 3rd September 2012.
 
Permission and copyrightYou must have the permission of anyone in the image (or, where the image shows anyone under the age of 18, permission from their parent or legal guardian) to use the image in our competition. This means you also need their permission to use the image in our calendar for 2013 and in any publicity surrounding the competition.

The submitted photographs must be your own work entirely and you must own the copyright and any other licensing or intellectual property rights of the image.

Entrants can submit an image that has previously been entered into or has won another photography competition, provided that, by doing so, you are not in breach of the terms and conditions of any other photography competition.

By entering your images, you agree that Children with Cancer UK may publish, exhibit or sell copies of the prints up to two years, from Monday 3rd September 2012, and all profits will go to the charity. No fees will be payable for their use. Should Children with Cancer UK wish to use any images after this time, the owners will be contacted and permission sought accordingly. Photographers retain the right to use their own images as they wish.

We will try to credit photographers when using their images but we cannot guarantee that every use will include their name.

By entering your images, you agree that any company endorsed by Children with Cancer UK may use your images in any promotions relating to the photography competition.

Registration details will be stored on the database for the sole purposes of the Competition.  

If we consider your image to be offensive or inappropriate, we reserve the right to refuse entry, but we will not be able to return the donation.

Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of the above terms and conditions.
